“My son managed to grab just a few essentials—passports, important papers—before getting out safely,” Gibson shared. “It’s tragic, of course, but in some ways, it feels like a purification. These were just things, after all, and while many were irreplaceable, they don’t define us.”
The actor revealed that among the destroyed items were rare books from the 1600s, priceless artwork, and cherished family photos. Reflecting on the destruction, he likened the devastation to historical events, drawing parallels to the World War II bombing of Dresden.
“We’re still standing, and I see this as a moment to reset,” Gibson added.

“I can’t help but wonder,” Gibson said, “if there’s more to this. California has a long history of questionable decisions with water management and other resources. It makes you think—were these fires accidental, or were they set with intent?”
Gibson further speculated about possible motivations, hinting that individuals or groups might benefit from driving residents off valuable land. “It’s reminiscent of the old cattle barons clearing land for their purposes,” he remarked. “It’s almost too convenient—the lack of water, the perfect wind conditions, and the possibility of people ready to light the match.”
