Twinkle’s Journey to Finding True Love
Every stray and shelter dog dreams of finding a loving family, a place where they can feel safe and cherished. Twinkle, a senior Chihuahua, was no different. Her journey from the streets of Miami to a loving home was filled with both heartache and hope.
A Rocky Start
In June 2022, Twinkle was found wandering the streets of Miami. She was brought to True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, a rescue dedicated to saving senior and unwanted dogs from high-euthanasia shelters. Twinkle arrived in poor condition. She was underweight, suffering from severe dental issues, a painful skin infection, and was almost completely hairless. Additionally, she needed surgery to remove mammary tumors.
Despite these challenges, Twinkle’s surgery was successful, and she began to recover. Within weeks, she had gained weight and was ready to start a new chapter in her life.
Adoption and Heartbreak
In September 2022, Twinkle’s story took a promising turn when she was adopted. Her new family seemed like they would provide her with the love and care she deserved. However, just four months later, her adoption took a tragic turn. Her family decided to surrender her back to the rescue. The reason? Twinkle wanted to sleep in their bed—a request they were unwilling to accommodate. They had other senior Chihuahuas, and none of them were allowed to sleep in the bed either.
The moment Twinkle’s family handed her over the fence and walked away, her heart was shattered. She stood there, watching them leave, filled with confusion and sorrow.
A Heartbroken Pup
“Twinkle was beyond devastated and confused,” recalled Madison Mulvihill, social media coordinator at True and Faithful Pet Rescue Mission. “I remember walking into the main dog room to see she was sitting in the corner on a dog bed, closed off and shaking with fear. She looked at you with such confusion on her face and pain in her heart.”
Twinkle, who had always been a well-behaved and affectionate dog, struggled to understand why her family had abandoned her. Her foster friends at the rescue were heartbroken and determined to help her. They couldn’t comprehend how someone could give up such a loving dog.
“Twinkle is not only just adorable, but she has the biggest personality despite being only 3-and-a-half pounds. She loves attention and is not afraid to approach you when she wants to be loved. She is so joyful and has the cutest little hops when she treads through the grass at the ranch,” Mulvihill added.
A New Beginning
In a bid to find Twinkle a new home, the rescue team created a TikTok video to share her story. The video quickly went viral, capturing the hearts of millions. The response was overwhelming, with adoption requests pouring in from all over.
Twinkle’s luck changed when a loving family from South Carolina saw her story and decided to adopt her. They made the long drive to bring Twinkle into their home. Now, Twinkle has six fur siblings and a king-size bed all to herself. Her new parents have given her the freedom to sleep with them as much as she wants, fulfilling her greatest wish.

Twinkle finally found the family she had always dreamed of. Her new home is filled with love, warmth, and the kind of affection that Twinkle had been missing.
