Sometimes, we forget that to our pups, we are not just owners—we are their world, their best friends, and their soulmates. They form deep emotional bonds with us, relying on our presence for comfort and security. So, when they are abandoned, the pain they feel is unimaginable.

Rescue Mission
Suzette Hall, founder of Logan’s Legacy, a rescue organization in Irvine, California, has been involved in countless rescues. Yet, every time she hears of an animal in distress, her heart breaks as if it were her first rescue. So, when she learned about a pup who had been cruelly dumped on a busy, frightening highway by his previous owner, she knew there was no time to lose.
Late at night, Suzette called her friend Arturo, another rescuer, and the two headed to the location. Upon arrival, they saw just how dire the situation was. The street was bustling with traffic, and the poor pup was utterly terrified. A homeless man nearby told them that ever since being abandoned, the pup had remained in the same spot, likely hoping his owner would return.
Hall and Arturo understood that any sudden movement could cause the pup to panic and run into the traffic, potentially injuring himself. “I honestly could not have done this rescue by myself. I am so thankful to Arturo for being there with me. One wrong move, and he would have run into oncoming traffic,” Hall shared in a Facebook post.
One Chance to Get It Right
Given the precarious situation, the rescuers knew they had to devise a foolproof plan to catch the pup on the first try. Using a mattress, some boxes, and wood lying around, they built a makeshift enclosure to corner the pup safely.
Carefully, Arturo and Hall maneuvered the pup into the enclosed area. Despite his fear and confusion, which made him attempt to escape, they blocked his path with a piece of wood. After a tense struggle, Hall finally managed to secure him with a snare.
The relief both rescuers felt was overwhelming. They quickly got the pup into their car, knowing they had just saved a life.
New Chapter
Because of the nerve-wracking nature of the rescue, Hall gave the pup a fitting name: Chance. “This wasn’t easy—his life was in our hands, but we took a chance, and that is why we named him Chance,” she explained.
Hearing about the ordeal Chance had been through, the vet staff decided to treat him to a soothing spa day. By the end of it, Chance looked and felt like a million bucks, his fur shining and his spirits lifted.
Suzette Hall and Arturo’s dedication and bravery gave this sweet pup another shot at a happy life. Their compassion and persistence remind us all of the power of love and the difference it can make in the life of a vulnerable animal.
